Beti Vikas Mission

Beeti ki Shiksha me beeti ki Suraksha!

‘Beti Vikas Mission’ is a campaign initiated by the Convent of Jesus and Mary (CJM) a religious institution run by Sisters to promote development and welfare of the girl children who are very poor, cannot fulfill their basic needs, have no homes, lack facilities for education, malnourished and vulnerable to sicknesses and diseases, victims of physical and sexual exploitation, and forced child marriage. The Convent of Jesus and Mary from the various experiences of working with the girl children have realized the importance of continuously initiating programmes and activities to support the development of poor and needy girls both in rural and urban areas.

And shares in the concern of ‘Beti bachao beti padao’ campaign of the Central Government of India. It is realized that the girls have a right to life and development so they need to be saved and protected with dignity and respect. They need opportunities like any other children to study, learn, play, sing, dance and a good career. To enable them to lead a successful life they need basic education with value inculcation, education to rights, ecology and environment, education to peaceful coexistence and gender, career and vocational education, etc.

So ‘Beti-Vikas Mission’ as a concept and as a mission initiated by CJM to promote over all development of poor and needy girls who lack opportunities for self-growth and development. It also contributes in the attainment of Millennium Development Goal (MDG) and in line with the celebration of International Day (11th October every year) declared by the United Nations for creating opportunities for girls and increase awareness of inequality faced by girls related to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence and forced child marriage, based upon their gender. It also contributes greatly

So, the ‘Beti-Vikas Mission’ as a campaign will be promoted as:

Movement of girls, initiated by girls and for the development of girls without discrimination and distinction on the basis of caste, creed, religion, language, and ethnicity. It will promote the dignity and rights of girl children to overcome situations of poverty, ill-health exploitation, oppression, physical and sexual violence, forced labour, discrimination and ill-treatment, etc. at home, in schools and in the neighborhood.

As a process to give our girls the required skills, knowledge, capacities and exposures enabling her to become active leader, meaningfully participate in decisions related to her growth and progress and take charge of her lives. Continuous imparting information and knowledge of their rights, privileges, skills of self-protection and self-defense.

As interventions to cater to the basic needs of the girls coming from poor and needy families providing care and protection through boarding with nutritious food, clothing shelter, enrolling them into primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, providing them coaching and remedial classes, talents and hobbies development, health care facilities, etc.

Programmes focusing self awareness interventions and sessions to promote personality development, talents and hobbies development
